The Community Resource Guide for Women and Girls
This Resource Guide was inspired by the needs of displaced Gulf Coast women and girls seeking services in Dallas, Denton, and Collin Counties. While not a comprehensive list, we hope that this report will serve as a guide for women and girls, nonprofits, and the community at large.

The Status of Women and Girls in Dallas County
The Dallas Women's Foundation commissioned Dr. Bernard L. Weinstein and the University of North Texas to conduct a comprehensive study to assess the status of women and girls in Dallas County. Out of the Shadows: A Portrait of Women and Girls in Dallas County identifies the issues and challenges facing females of all ages in our community. The study includes a detailed examination of data from the 2000 Census, data collected by researchers via local surveys of women and girls, and through focus groups and key informant interviews. The executive summary of the findings can be downloaded below. Funding for the study was provided by DWF, Citigroup Foundation, HFG Advisors, L.L.C., The Meadows Foundation, North Dallas Arts League, Rosewood Foundation, SBC Foundation, The Simmons Family Foundation, Girl Scouts of Tejas Council, Texas Health Resources, and WorkSource for Dallas County.

Gender Matters: Funding Effective Programs for Women and Girls
by Molly Mead
In 1992, a major national effort was underway to increase foundation funding for these programs. Both national and regional organizations were engaged in an interlocking set of activities designed to educate funders about women and girls and to provide them with solid evidence of the ineffectiveness and inequity of their own grantmaking practices. The assumption was that such evidence would be a powerful force for change. What have been the results of these efforts? What (if anything) has changed since 1992 in funding for women and girls' organizations?
