Health & Safety Indicators, Full Report

Some of the study’s key findings in our region reveal:

  • A significant population of women in Dallas-Fort Worth faces obstacles to accessing healthcare due to lack of health insurance.
  • With obesity and overweight rates on the rise, there is a troubling shift in chronic disease risk factors occurring among women in Dallas-Fort Worth.
  • As HIV/AIDS spreads more rapidly through the heterosexual population, the burden of the disease is beginning to shift towards our region’s women.
  • Increases in infant mortality and very low birth weight babies are increasing the strain on women related to children and reproduction.
  • Teen births continue to be a significant health issue that translates into broad-reaching challenges for young women and the community at large.
  • The toll that violence takes on women is incompletely and inconsistently documented.

What is known for certain is that violence against women continues to be a problem in our community and a threat against the well-being of women in Dallas-Fort Worth.
