The Status of Women and Girls in Dallas County
The Dallas Women's Foundation commissioned Dr. Bernard L. Weinstein and the University of North Texas to conduct a comprehensive study to assess the status of women and girls in Dallas County. Out of the Shadows: A Portrait of Women and Girls in Dallas County identifies the issues and challenges facing females of all ages in our community. The study includes a detailed examination of data from the 2000 Census, data collected by researchers via local surveys of women and girls, and through focus groups and key informant interviews. The goal of our report, Out of the Shadows: A Portrait of Women and Girls in Dallas County, is to focus attention on the most pressing issues facing women and girls at the beginning of the new millennium. Very little gender-based research has been done in the Dallas community. The Dallas Women’s Foundation is pleased to share the information contained herein with the public, in the hope that the data will foster and support community efforts and collaborations that address the needs of women and girls.
We hope that this report will serve as a guide for nonprofit agencies, corporate and foundation grant makers, and public policy officials. To facilitate web access to the substantial contents of the entire body of research, the full report has been divided into the following downloadable sections:
